Basic Synth Effects

Distortion and amp simulators.

Good on drums for a lo-fi sound. Good guitar boxes like the pod work really well. Also work well on lead and bass sounds, especially when used with filter sweeps.

Chorus

Try using two different chorus sounds at the same time for a lush effect, also add some delay for extra depth.

Delay

Some synths hav delays that are related to the midi clock, in other words they stay in synch with the sequencer. Delay is an echo effect, you can set the time, the mix and the amount of feedback (the number of repeats) Sometimes good on sparse bass lines and can add depth to pad sounds.

Flange

Sort of a whoosh sound, works nice on a sequence line or a pad, the more treble there is in the original sound, the more obvious the effect is. Settings are modulation amount and rate (controlled by an internal LFO) and depth. Also resonance - also known as feedback. Turn this up for a metallic effect.

EQ

Tone controls, for bass, mid and treble frequencies.

Enhancer

Adds brightness to the sound.

Reverb

Creates an artificial space around the sound. Varying from a small room to a cathedral.

Compression

Can make a sound seem fatter, by controlling it's dynamics, takes peaks down in order to allow the overall level to be turned up.
